Pastor Jim McIver

About Bishop Jim McIver Sr

My life was crazy growing up. It is almost unbelievable; but it really happened. I've decided to reveal my past so that people may get a better understanding of my passion for Christ, prayer, the Bible, praise and worship, for souls and for life.  If Christ had not changed me, I would not be alive.  Therefore, I owe God everything!

From about four years old, my Grandmother raised me. Grandma did the best she could, but we were poor! Sometimes we would eat beans for breakfast, beans for lunch and beans for dinner.  We didn't have running water in the house, we had a pump in the backyard.  For a restroom we had an outhouse in the backyard.  The only heat we had was a wood stove in my Grandma's bed/living room and a wood cookstove in the kitchen.  The only lights in the house were kerosene lamps.  Grandma owned an old icebox to refrigerate food.  The ice man would come once or twice a week to bring a block of ice to put in the icebox to keep the food cold.  We were so poor that the poor folks felt sorrow for us.

I started running with a gang of about 100 guys when I was 12 years old.  I got stabbed in the back in a street fight when I was 14 years old. My first of many trips to jail began when I was 15 years old.  I was on probation the first of 2 or 3 times when I was 16 years old. I never knew my Mom or Dad until I was 16 years old. I started running a nightclub, gambling and selling illegal liquor when I was 18 years old.

I was shot at on at-least three different occasions. One guy shot at me six times with a pistol, and missed six times. Another guy shot at me twice with a double barrel shotgun and missed me. Another guy shot at me once with a single barrel shotgun and missed me. After a terrible fight, a fellow went home and got his gun, came back and put his pistol barrel on my forehead and threatened to kill me. With his pistol barrel on my forehead I shouted; I dare you! It shocked him so badly that he ran with a gun in his hand. That was not courage, that was stupidity!  My dad approached me one day, pointed his finger at me and said, boy, somebody is going to kill you!  Dying never really bothered me.

When I look back at the craziness, I realize that I constantly dated death. It is a miracle that I am alive. There were things about my past that I didn't want to remember and I didn't want to tell, but the Holy Spirit spoke to me and said; tell it, and I will use it for my glory. So, as He has prompted me, this is a little of how my life was before Christ came into my life.  Jesus Christ is alive and real.  Jesus Christ had to be alive and real to change my life!

My journey to abundant life began with an encounter with the Holy Spirit on a trip from New Jersey to Miami, Florida. On December 12, 1970, in Miami, Florida I was born again and within a year I was filled with the Holy Spirit. During the summer of 1971 I was called into the ministry. Although I had a passion for Christ, I resisted the call to the ministry. I did not want to be a preacher! After months of suffering the dealings of God, I began preaching on street corners in New Jersey and New York. Shortly after surrendering to the call of God I began to prepare for the ministry. Preparation for ministry was an adventure within itself. There was much purging, shaping, molding, fasting, much praying, all night Bible studies, week of fasting and waiting before the Lord. I had no ideal of the sacrifices that were required to prepare for the ministry!

The Lord allowed a Bishop in Brooklyn New York to wittiness His hands on my life, so in 1973, he ordained me into the ministry. I’ve preached on the mission fields, under tents, in Convention Halls, in churches, in auditoriums, community halls, on television, on radio and every place the Gospel could be heard. It didn’t matter; I’ve had to tell men about Jesus Christ!

The ministry He entrusted me with has led thousands to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, hundreds filled with the Holy Ghost, marked by notable miracles and the tangible presence of God.

My early Christian walk was influenced by the likes of: R. W. Schambach, Kathryn Kuhlman, Bert Clendennen, T. L. Osborn, Oral Roberts, Kenneth Hagin and many other word of faith, deliverance and healing ministers. Imparting life-transforming wisdom, I have authored 14 books including; How Miracles Are Made (Revival Fires Publications) Who's Messing With My Stuff?
