Love Haiti's Children Orphanage

January 21, 2010

Proverbs 19:17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.

I am sure that everyone is aware of the devastating earthquake that shook Haiti recently (1-12-10). Port-Au-Prince was nearly leveled to the ground, thousands of lives were lost and thousands are left homeless. As I sat and watched the devastation on TV and on the Internet, I wept. As I watched, I refused to question how or why. The only question I asked was, what must I do in response to all of this? In a moment’s time, I had the answer.

My answer came as I was reminded of a mission trip to Haiti several years ago visiting an orphanage in Mariani. What I witnessed on that trip to Haiti is beyond words. What I witnessed concerning the children in Haiti literally shook my mind and my total being. I must admit, that first trip to Haiti prompted lots of questions. When I finally figured out the answers, I felt angry, hurt and helpless. I quickly overcame those feelings and began to pray and wait on the Lord for His direction concerning the nation of Haiti.

As I watched the aftermath of the earthquake, the adults and especially the children being dug out and pulled from the collapsed building, I knew exactly what I was to do. Go to Haiti and set up an orphanage! There is no mistake about what I heard as it bore witness with what has been in my heart for several years. The details of what we are to do are below. Before the earthquake, the need for orphanages was great. I am told that when the dust settles from the earthquake, the need for orphanages will be tripled.

As you and I watch and as the world watches the nation of Haiti, we have choices. We can either sit around and try to figure out all of the whys or we can ask ourselves a question. In spite of the “why’s or the how comes,” the question must be, what can I do to help the children of Haiti? Why the children? Because they are helpless. They cannot work, they have no money, and they have no food or drink. The children have no place to live and they cannot protect themselves. They children cannot speak for themselves and if they are left to themselves, they will be raped, be killed or they will die.

In the aftermath of this devastating earthquake in Haiti, this is not a time to ask questions, it is a time to be the solution. If you desire to help the children of Haiti, this is your opportunity to partner with us in setting up an orphanage that will save lives, build lives and prepare them for a successful future.

Our goal is to either purchase a building, renovate a building or purchase land and erect a building. Either way, we will have a building. The vision is to have rooms for children, rooms for staff and rooms for visiting missionaries. We plan to be licensed in Haiti so that children can be adopted through the orphanage. There will be a kitchen and dinning area with a storage area for food. We plan to educate the children that they may have a bright future. There will be an area for school and educational supplies. The plan is to have a clinic with medical supplies on hand. We also plan to have a filtered water system for pure water. We plan to have an area outside for recreation for the children. For security purposes, we plan to have walls around the home. A generator and an inverter will be purchased for electricity.

This orphanage will be supported by OLCC and it’s Missions Ministry and the donations of individuals, businesses or churches as they are led to do so. Support for the orphanage will also be received through the fundraising efforts of those who are partnered with us. Establishing and maintaining an orphanage is no small effort and we will need the support of every person possible. In advance, I thank you and I am grateful for your financial support and help in showing love to the children of Haiti.
